Phase I Scholars
Eighteen Phase I Scholars completed their first University of Washington DO-IT Summer Study in July 2022. Scholars learned about college life and prepared for college and careers. They continue to connect with each other and DO-IT Mentors throughout the year. Scholars participated in exciting sessions related to fields like science, engineering, mathematics, and technology; and they continue to use laptops, assistive technology, and the internet to support their academic studies. After completing Summer Study 2022, these participants graduated to Phase II.
Hi, my name is Alexis. I attend Richland High School and will be participating in the Tri-Tech Veterinary program in the fall. I enjoy hanging out with my friends and writing. I have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Hi, my name is Arun. I use he/him pronouns. My favorite things to do are hanging out with my dog, art, programming, writing, and math. I love stories. I also listen to music almost constantly. I go to Nova High School and am doing Running Start at Shoreline Community College. I have multiple disabilities.
Hi, my name is Ashley. I go to a school in Stanwood called Stanwood High School. My favorite class is English. I want to go to the University of Washington and work for Apple to make apps and other accessible technology. I have a physical disability called cerebral palsy. My hobbies include power soccer, yoga, and listening to music.
Hi, my name is Bella I enjoy my classes in math and Spanish. I have a bunch of different pets, including cats, dogs, rabbits, a lizard, a goat, and a duck. I have a learning disability.
Hello, my name is Cameron. I attend Auburn Riverside High School where I enjoy studying electronics and working with computers. My favorite hobbies are working on old electronics and gaming consoles, and I enjoy playing video games. I have autism.
Hi, I am Chris, I go to the Academy for Precision Learning in Seattle, and I will be a senior this fall. I have autism and a learning disability. I am volunteering at the Museum of Flight this summer as a pavilion ambassador. I enjoy playing the piano and tenor saxophone. I like to play different sports like golf, football, baseball, and soccer. I want to go to the University of Washington and take math, music, and science classes. I also want to be a pilot, flying passengers to different places like China, London, and many other places.
Hi, I am Cosey. I go to Port Angeles High School, and I plan on attending Peninsula College. At the moment, I find myself spending time writing poetry. I am looking forward to starting soccer in late August. I have narcolepsy and a learning disability. This program has been excellent, and I look forward to the coming years. Some of my favorite things to do are daydreaming, talking about important political decisions with family, and challenging myself to try new things. My hobbies include sewing, drawing outfits, and walking with my dog, Elwood.
Hi! My name is Ethan! I am currently a junior at Battle Ground High School. My favorite academic areas are math and science, and possible college interests are chemistry/physics and computer science. I have attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, which affects my attention span and level of energy. Some of my hobbies and interests are music and games, as they both help me calm down and relax a lot. I play the drums and bass guitar. I've built my own computer as well.
Hi, my name is Francine, and I’ve attended school in Washington for over 10 years, including at Shelton High School. I want to study hospitality and tourism after high school; I love learning about culture, languages, and geography. I enjoy singing, babysitting, swimming, dancing, bowling, cooking, and spending time with my friends. I have autism.
Hannah ‘22 Scholar Hello, my name is Hannah. I attend Lakeside High School in Nine Mile Falls. The activities and classes I enjoy there are English, history, and drama. I like playing video games, listening to music, rehearsing for plays at school, hanging out with my cats, and writing. I have autism, so I have a hard time communicating with others. Despite my autism, I wish to be a novel writer and create my own stories.

Hi everyone! I’m Madeline, a rising senior at Richland High School. I have attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism, and right hemiparetic cerebral palsy. My favorite school subject is English, and I love to write. I enjoy playing the piano, and also enjoy swimming, especially on my high school swim team. Once I graduate from high school next year, I hope to pursue a STEM field in college.

Hello! I am Oscar. I attend Issaquah High School. My top favorite academic areas at school are math and science, because I am always curious. I also love geography! I currently plan on pursuing either the space and medical field. I’m not sure where I want to attend college. My disability is bilateral hearing loss. I have many hobbies, such as figuring out Rubik’s Cubes, reading books, learning new things, distance running, and watching Minecraft house architecture videos.
