Support Your Staff With the Spring Retreat
Mindy Kornberg, JD
Vice President, UW Human Resources

Since 2004, POD has been producing this phenomenal annual event for administrative support professionals at the UW. Not only does the Support Professionals Spring Retreat promote professional development, personal growth, and on-the-job success, this popular event at a world-class conference center provides managers with a meaningful way to recognize, reward, and develop staff.

As part of larger efforts to bolster retention, foster engagement, and enhance workplace culture across the University, UWHR is supporting POD in kicking off this year’s retreat, which takes place on April 18, with a special mentoring panel. The panel will also be live-streamed for everyone across the UW to watch.

In part, the panel is in response to Provost Jerry Baldasty’s call for better career pathing resources for University staff. In conjunction with the retreat, UWHR and POD will be launching new mentoring resources on our website. In fact, you can visit the mentoring panel page to link to a new mentoring toolkit that will be launched in conjunction with the retreat. This same page will also be your portal for viewing the panel portion of the event.

To benefit those who cannot attend the retreat, I’d encourage you to spread the word about the free mentoring panel. Although a recording of the panel will be available after the event, staff who are live-streaming it will be able to submit questions in real-time.

I am pleased to serve as moderator for the panel and even more pleased with the fantastic group of UW leaders who are contributing their time and expertise:

Staff can expect to hear about these leaders’ professional journeys, especially their career path to and through the UW and how mentors helped guide them along the way. I anticipate their stories will ignite interest in mentoring and its possibilities, which will then be supported by the mentoring resources launching on our website that same day.

I hope you’ll take a few minutes now to encourage a few team members to register for the Support Professionals Spring Retreat on April 18 or put the mentoring panel on their calendars.
